PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: June 3, 2026

On Your Device

Workout session history, rep logs, and personal records stay on your iPhone via CoreData. Deleting the app removes this permanently.

iCloud (CloudKit)

Group scores, chat messages, profile avatars, group data, and 1v1 challenges sync via Apple's CloudKit. Your full workout history is never stored in the cloud.

Game Center

Your display name and scores appear on friends/global leaderboards. Managed by Apple's Game Center service.

Apple Health

Optional: we read step counts and can write workouts to Health. Controlled entirely by you through iOS permissions.

Overview

Sweat Rivals is designed with your privacy as a priority. We believe your fitness journey is personal. This policy explains exactly where your data lives, what gets shared, and how each service works — so you can make informed choices.

Face Tracking (TrueDepth API)

Sweat Rivals uses Apple's TrueDepth camera exclusively for push-up exercise detection. The app reads only the distance measurement between your face and the device camera (measured in meters). This distance value is:

  • Collected only during active push-up workout sessions
  • Processed entirely on your device in real-time
  • Never stored, saved, or persisted to any database
  • Never transmitted over the network or shared with any service
  • Immediately discarded after each measurement
  • Reset to zero when you stop the workout

The app does not collect, store, or transmit:

  • Facial images or video
  • Facial geometry or mesh data
  • Biometric identifiers
  • Any other facial features or characteristics

Only the final rep count (a simple number) is saved locally. Face tracking can be disabled by denying camera permissions or by not using the push-up exercise.

Local Data Storage

Your full workout session history — every set, rep, and timer session — is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's CoreData framework. This includes:

  • Complete workout logs with per-set rep counts
  • Personal records and bests
  • Daily objectives progress and UI preferences

This data never leaves your iPhone. Deleting the app removes it permanently.

iCloud (CloudKit) — Social & Group Data

To enable group features, Sweat Rivals stores certain data in Apple's CloudKit (public database, container iCloud.com.theo.gritfit). Your full workout history is never uploaded to CloudKit. Only aggregated scores and social content are shared:

  • Group scores — aggregated rep counts per exercise and time period (daily/weekly/monthly/annual), plus streaks
  • Group data — group name, invite code, owner, weekly challenge goals, banner images
  • Group membership — your Game Center player ID and display name within each group
  • Activity feed — recent workout summaries (e.g. "did 50 push-ups"), retained for 7 days
  • 1v1 challenges — opponent, exercise, scores, dates
  • Achievements — global unlock counts and your personal achievement unlocks
  • Profile avatars — images you choose for your profile (stored as CloudKit assets)

Group Chat

Group chat is a custom feature built on CloudKit — it does not use Game Center's messaging system. Chat messages are GroupMessage records in CloudKit's public database. Each message stores:

  • Your Game Center player ID and display name (for sender identification)
  • Message text, optional photo attachments (JPEG), and emoji reactions
  • Message type (text, image, hype, or announcement) and timestamp

Chat messages are visible to members of that group. Push notifications for new messages are handled locally by the app (background fetch), not through Apple's notification service.

Game Center

Sweat Rivals requires Game Center sign-in. Game Center provides your player ID and display name, which we use to identify you in leaderboards, groups, and chat.

  • Friends & global leaderboards — your display name and scores are shared through Apple's Game Center service (managed by Apple's privacy policy)
  • Group leaderboards — scores are additionally stored in CloudKit so all group members can see each other, even if they aren't Game Center friends
  • After each workout, scores are typically submitted to both Game Center and CloudKit

Apple Health Integration

Apple Health integration is optional and controlled entirely by you through iOS Settings. When enabled:

  • Step counting — we read your cumulative step totals (today and this week) from Apple Health via HKStatisticsQuery. Sweat Rivals does not count steps using the iPhone motion sensors directly. Your Health step total may include data from your iPhone, Apple Watch, and other apps that write steps to Health.
  • Workout writing — optionally, completed workouts can be saved to Apple Health
  • Step counts read from Health are submitted to Game Center leaderboards and CloudKit group scores

We do not have independent access to your Apple Health data beyond what you authorize through iOS permissions.

Motion & Camera Sensors

Different exercises use different detection methods:

  • Push-ups — TrueDepth camera measures face-to-device distance (see Face Tracking section above)
  • Squats & crunches — device motion sensors (accelerometer/gyroscope) detect movement patterns
  • Plank — timer-based; no sensors used
  • Pull-ups — manual tap counter; no sensors used
  • Steps — read from Apple Health; no in-app motion sensing (see Apple Health section above)

All sensor data is processed on-device in real-time and is never stored or transmitted.

No Third-Party Analytics or Tracking

We do not use any third-party analytics, tracking tools, or advertising SDKs. We do not collect usage statistics, crash reports, or behavioral data from external services.

No Advertisements

Sweat Rivals does not display advertisements of any kind. We will never integrate ad networks or use your data for advertising purposes.

No Data Selling

We never sell, share, or monetize your data with third parties. Period.

Children's Privacy

Sweat Rivals does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data through our app, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

If we change our privacy practices, we will update this policy and notify users through an app update.
